COFFEE TALK: Culture by Toyota

How to use the TPS approach with people involvement

We cordially invite you to a seminar on the basics of the Toyota Production System (TPS) – the philosophy behind the principles of lean manufacturing and the foundations of the Training Within Industry methodology.

Together, we will look at how TPS came to be, who was behind its birth, and what pillars make it a timeless system that works across disciplines. We’ll see why no process can stand up over the long term without a solid foundation, and how the individual elements – from 5S to standardized work – contribute to greater efficiency, quality and people engagement.
The seminar will provide an overview of the main principles of TPS, practical examples and recommendations on how to gradually put them into practice.

1.  How it all started

  • How the Toyota Production System came about and who shaped it
  • What Just In Time, Jidoka, Kanban and Muda mean
  • Key principles underlying the TPS

2.  Building a solid foundation

  • Why no stable process can do without a strong foundation
  • 5S – why it doesn’t stop at cleaning
  • TPM – prevention that saves time and prevents problems
  • Visualisation – easier decision making through clarity
  • Levelized production – a topic that is talked about but hardly ever broached
  • Kaizen & TWI Job Methods – Improvement as a natural part of work
  • Standardized Work & TWI Job Instruction – standard = basic, TWI = key

3.  The main pillars of TPS – Just In Time and Jidoka

  • How they work together in practice
  • Examples from companies that have successfully applied these principles
